A SCHOOLGIRL has used her spare time in lockdown to start up her own business.

Issy Dodd, 11, from Gosport, set up a slime-selling business last year, called Sassy Slimes.

Now, the youngster is absolutely raking it in, making hundreds of pounds and shipping products as far out as Australia.

She’s been running her business while homeschooling in lockdown, and it’s given her something to push forwards.

Issy said: ‘It took around three months to set up, then it’s grown from there.

‘I learnt a lot about business, how it works and that it is possible for a 10-year-old to create a business and actually make money.

‘I like slime – it’s satisfying to play with and keeps me occupied. I love the different smells and textures.

‘The most difficult thing was working out what order to do things in and when to fit it around school without getting stressed.’

Over the past few months, Issy has earned more than £1,400 from Sassy Slimes – and is looking to expand her operations.

Her mum, fellow entrepreneur Cheryl Dodd, helped her set up the business and had regular meetings with her about the company.

Issy said: ‘I would recommend kids to start up a business. It teaches you a lot and is also fun.

‘With the money I’ve ordered more supplies for my slime shop, and also bought two new fish tanks and lots of fish.’

Cheryl added that the business gave Issy some newfound motivation.

She said: ‘Less and less school work was happening at home and with motivation at a low, Issy asked me to help her to set up her own business to sell slime.

‘Before long, she was reading to research, writing her product descriptions on her new website, calculating her ingredients costs and learning to budget and manage her money. ‘There was so much learning, increased self-belief and motivation – it was amazing to see.

‘We also spent a lovely couple of months meeting about her business regularly – it was quite special.’

Issy’s slimes include shimmers, Nutella and honeycomb, among others.

To purchase, people can go to sassyslimes.co.uk.

‘I like slime – it's satisfying to play with and keeps me occupied. I love the smells. Issy Dodd
