County cup shock in sights again
Hawks will be bidding to serve up another cup surprise against National League Notts County in the FA Trophy last-16 next month.
Paul Doswell’s side were yesterday drawn at home against Neal Ardley’s Football League hopefuls for the right to reach the quarter-final stage of the competition.
And it’s a tie that’s sure to have brought a smile to the faces of Hawks supporters.
The club have fond memories from the last time the two teams met at
Meadow Lane in December 2007. On that occasion, it came in the FA Cup as substitute Tony Taggart’s strike secured a spot in the third round proper.
It was the year Hawks famoulsy enjoyed a run to the fourth round where they were beaten by Liverpool at Anfield - only after taking the lead twice. Although this meeting comes in a different competition - the FA Trophy - and at Westleigh Park as opposed to Meadow Lane, the whole club will be hoping the result is just the same.
Hawks made it into the fifth round draw without even kicking a ball. National League Altrincham decided to forfeit their place in the competition of Friday because of a positive coronavirus result in their camp.
Meanwhile, County were 2-1 fourth round winners at Stockport on Saturday.
