Ex-Lincoln boss backs ‘powerful’ Blues for league glory
DANNY COWLEY believes Pompey are the ‘most rounded’ and ‘powerful’ team in League One and expects Kenny Jackett to lead them to promotion this season.
The former Lincoln City and Huddersfield Town boss paid the Blues the ultimate compliment as he appeared as a pundit on EFL on Quest on Saturday night.
He was impressed with Pompey’s 1-0 win at Fleetwood Town as they consolidated third place in the table and closed the gap on the top two – with his former club at Sincil Bank leading the way, followed by Hull City.
And when asked if they could go all the way this season, his answer was quite emphatic.
He told presenter Michelle Owen: ‘I think so. Obviously, my heart’s with Lincoln, but I see Portsmouth as the most rounded team in the division, the most powerful team in the division, and yeah I expect them to get promoted.’
His fellow guest on the show, Ali Maxwell, was just as complimentary towards the Blues.
Despite not featuring in the
league since beating Hull on December 18, the Not
The Top 20 Pod presenter hailed Pompey’s consistency and admitted things were ‘looking really good’ for the Fratton Park outfit.
He said: ‘They’ve picked up where they left off.
‘That’s four wins in five, the other was a draw, they haven’t conceded in that time and all of those five games were against other teams in the top half.
‘Now, those results will get you where you want to be.
‘They’re just so consistent now. They’re good at both ends of the pitch.
‘It is looking really good for them at the moment.’
IT’S been revealed that former Pompey boss Steve Cotterill had a period in intensive care after contracting coronavirus.
And although now out of ICU, BBC Shropshire reports that the 56-year-old remains in hospital as he continues his recovery from the virus.
Cotterill was one of around 20 Covid cases reported in the Shrews camp at the start of the year, with the League One outfit out of action since beating Blackpool on December 29.
They are due to face Southampton at St Mary’s in the third round of the FA Cup tonight, with the BBC also reporting that the one-time Blues manager will watch the game from his hospital bed.
Cotterill has been in charge at Greenhous Meadow since November.
He was named the Sky
Bet League One manager of the month for December after Shrewsbury went the entire month unbeaten in the division.
