Frustrated Eisner urges Blues fans to remain upbeat
ERIC EISNER shared fans’ frustrations as Pompey were held to a 1-1 draw by Gillingham at Fratton Park.
But acknowledging the importance of the Blues’ support, the club director urged the PO4 faithful to ‘stay positive’ between now and the end of the season.
Pompey still have 16 League One games remaining and remain safe in the play-off positions after Saturday’s disappointing stalemate, sitting fourth.
However, they lost further ground on league leaders Peterborough, who came from behind to beat Wigan 2-1.
And while there’s comfort to take from second-placed Lincoln’s 4-3 defeat at Plymouth, Hull reinforced their automatic promotion credentials by hammering AFC Wimbledon 3-0.
Kenny Jackett’s side looked on course to record another much-needed win when Sean Raggett headed home on 31 minutes – not long after Marcus Harness struck the post.
But the defender’s opener was cancelled out before half-time when Vadaine Oliver made the most of a Lee Brown error.
The second half failed to provide proof that only a third home win of 2021 was on the cards.
And with the Blues now collecting just 23 points from a possible 51 at Fratton Park this season – only the 11th-best home record in the division – it was understandable that fans took to social media to vent their frustration.
American-based Eisner was also on Twitter after the game.
And while he was just as disappointed with the result, he encouraged fans to keep the faith.
He tweeted: ‘A frustrating one no doubt.
‘Felt ominous after we hit the post early.
‘Our home form shows how important the #bluearmy is.
‘We still have time to achieve our goals. Stay positive.’
