Don’t forget about The Groundlings when theatres can reopen

-

I am writing in response to the letter from P Conway (Why is the NTR special? February 11).

It was with regards to refunds of tickets from a number of different theatres in the area. The writer listed several wonderful local theatres, stating how much he or she enjoyed supporting them all.

In the current climate it is good to hear of individuals who are making such an effort to support an industry which through no fault of its own is on its knees. Theatre and the arts are important not only for the economic benefits they bring to our nation, but for the wellbeing and good health of us all.

I wanted to bring to their attention that there is another small theatre in Portsmouth, Groundlings Theatre in Kent Street and we would love to welcome the writer through the doors. We too have faced a difficult year and had to stop a show mid-run which was devastating for all.

Groundlings is unique, working from an 18th century Grade 2 listed building which is full of character. We produce the majority of our shows from scratch and work with professionals and volunteers together.

Since the announcement by the Prime Minister we have begun to prepare for reopening. Our first show will be Wonderland (based on Alice In Wonderland) in early June and we will follow that with a production of The Great Gatsby. Look on our website for further details of how to book your tickets.

And if we have to cancel or postpone the show, you will receive a full refund.

So dust off your posh frocks, press your smart togs, P Conway, and anyone else who loves live theatre, and come and support us!
