Blueprint to turn Blues’ form around is revealed

-

DANNY COWLEY has outlined his blueprint to turn around Pompey’s season.

The Blues’ new head coach has laid down an intention to get his team’s campaign firing again off the back of hightempo attacking football.

Cowley, along with his brother Nicky, was yesterday unveiled until the end of the season and spoke to the press for the first time last night.

And the 42-year-old made it clear what kind of philosophy he will be impressing on the team.

Cowley said: ‘We have a clear way of playing.

‘We want to play fast, attacking football, get supporters on the edge of their seats and we want to be intense with the way that we defend.

‘It’s a high-energy game that we play which requires a lot of commitment from the players.’

It’s a fast-paced turnaround for the duo as they go into their maiden game against Paul Cook’s Ipswich today.

They spent Friday morning meeting the players before overseeing a training session at Fratton Park. The focus was on implementing a few, clear and important philosophies on the players, rather than overloading them with information.

The brothers believe those ideas can quickly be implemented against Cook’s team.

Cowley added: ‘The first thing is you have to get buy-in.

‘So you have to clearly convey your message.

‘We’re conscious there’s a game and we’ve had to think about what principles are most important for the game.

‘We haven’t been able to cover everything, that’s obvious. If we’d told them 100 things they would’ve probably have forgotten 99. So we’ve focused on three or four areas where we feel we can get some quick wins in the group.

‘We trained on those ideas and we hope to see elements of those principles in the performance against Ipswich.’
