Cowleys to move away from families

-

DANNY COWLEY has outlined the sacrifices he’s making to turn Pompey’s season around.

The Blues’ new head coach told how he is leaving his family to move to the city fulltime and focus on getting the campaign firing again.

And Cowley explained how it’s a move which is being repeated by his brother, Nicky, after they arrived at Fratton Park on a deal to the end of the campaign.

The pair orchestrated a 2-1 win over Paul Cook’s Ipswich in their first game in charge after succeeding Kenny Jackett on Saturday.

The pair currently live next door to each other in Lincoln, but will relocate more than

200 miles with their families staying put.

Cowley said: ‘I’ve had some brilliant family time.

‘My children are seven and 11 and I’ve spent more time with them in six months than I have in their lives.

‘So that’s been great and

I’ve really enjoyed the time with my wife as well.

‘She’s pleased that I’m back to work, but we’re going to be here constantly – 24/7.

‘They will come down for Easter holidays but we need to focus, they understand that.

‘We will miss them short term but the right thing to do is put all our energies into this.’

They may be apart from their wives and children, but Pompey have picked up two new fans in the shape of the Cowleys’ parents.

They were both at Fratton Park on Saturday, as they kept up their record of never missing one of their sons’ games in management.

Cowley added: ‘My dad has been so strict not going out of the house. He’s literally not been out of the house.

‘As soon as football comes back, day one he’s in the car and coming to Portsmouth!

‘I said “are you sure you should be doing this?”, but my mum and dad haven’t missed a game. I don’t think they’ve missed one in 14 years.’
