It went to HMS Warrior – its steel came from West Ham and is where we get the term ‘getting a hammering’ from.
Also covered were Spitbank
Fort, Southsea Castle, Bosham, Chichester Harbour, Newhaven docks and Dover Castle.
But it kicked off on ships’ figureheads and the restoration of them.
Surprisingly, in the old days, the ship’s figurehead could have been 20 per cent of the cost of the ship.
