Pool planning
in the AstraZeneca vaccine do materialise.
If they do, perhaps some of our European friends could divert to the UK those supplies that they have declined to use.
There is only one person who should be hanging his head in shame. Guess who!

As Covid restrictions are about to be lifted, we hope the council is going to come up with a sensible timetable for swimmers in the south of the city. We are told we will be able to use Charter or the new university pool, but when during the working day?
The council needs to plan ahead and only remove pools when the replacement is ready. We understand the proposed Bransbury Park plan is four/ five years from fruition.
Portsmouth people deserve better.
Two pools closed at the same time.
A senior person’s annual pass cost £286 and have time remaining on them with no suitable pool to use.
A few hundred, mainly elderly people, used to use Eastney as it was more disabled-friendly than any other pool in Portsmouth. There is another door into the pool area for wheelchair/limited mobility access.
Mountbatten is totally unsuitable for limited mobility users as the steps are vertical against the side of the pool and there is no removable graded step.
There are hoists at Mountbatten and Eastney but people prefer to be independent if possible.
The floor at Mountbatten has been problematic since day one. It gets stuck all the time so no 50m for swimming clubs like Northsea. No fun facilities for children. Havant/ Waterlooville – two pools, Fareham / Gosport – two pools, Portsmouth?
As Eastney has been a swimming pool for 100-plus years, we are sure the council could keep it going another five years until new facilities open.
It was being used until lockdown and we were told it would reopen after lockdown, but now they are saying it is structurally unsound. Did that happen overnight?
