TWO men died in separate incidents in a night, sparking concern among city residents.

Police, ambulance and fire station crews were all seen in Museum Road, Old Portsmouth, on Friday.

A day later Hampshire Constabulary confirmed a man in his 20s died.

Firefighters, who were there as a precaution, say they attended the scene for five hours. Hours later an 89-year-old man died in a nonsuspicious sudden death in Clarendon Street, Landport, at 9.56pm.

Portsmouth police tweeted about the first incident on Friday night warning people not to ‘speculate’ over the ‘isolated’ incident but did not provide any details until Saturday afternoon.

Facebook users on local groups in the area raised concerns, with some having seen police activity in Clarendon

Street. Police confirmed the OAP’s death on Saturday.

Residents behind Museum Road said they didn’t hear much happening before officers arrived on Friday night.

One resident, who lives in Kings Terrace, told The News: ‘I always feel sorry for those involved when something like this happens.’

A spokesman for Hampshire police said: ‘We can confirm the body of a man in his 20s was discovered in Museum Road, Portsmouth yesterday afternoon, Friday, March 26. We were called at 4.05pm.

‘We would like to reassure residents that this appears to be an isolated incident, there is no wider risk to the community. No arrests have been made and we are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.’ It’s not clear what happened during the five hours of the incident.

Paramedics and firefighters attended the incident with a cordon in the road and an incident response team on site near Ravelin Park.

A spokeswoman from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said: ‘Firefighters from Winchester and Southsea were called to Museum Road and Landport Terrace, Southsea, last night (March 26) by colleagues at Hampshire Constabulary to assist with an incident.’

Paramedics had been called to Clarendon Street, Landport, on Friday. Regarding the pensioner’s death, a police spokesman said: ‘The incident we attended was the sudden death of an 89-yearold man at his home.’

The death was not being treated as suspicious, the police spokesman added.
