Another crushing pro victory for Mark
Mark Chamberlain landed another crushing knockout victory as he extended his perfect professional record to 8-0 at the weekend.
The ferocious Waterlooville lightweight was in no mood for messing around, defeating Jordan Ellison in the first round live on BT Sport at the Copper Box Arena in London.
Chamberlain, below, landed a crushing body blow on his opponent and he was unable to get back to his feet.
It was another statement victory from the big punching southpaw in front of promoter Frank Warren.
The 22-year-old's reputation continues to grow with this his fifth victory out of eight in the pro ranks inside the distance, with all of those coming in the first round.
Admittedly, Chamberlain was expected to win against Ellison, who had won just 11 of his 45 pro bouts.
But the southpaw is surely now putting himself in the reckoning for a title fight with an impeccable step up into the pro ranks so far.
■ Matt King suffered a points defeat as he began life in the professional boxing ranks at the Copper Box Arena.
The Gosport fighter was overcome in a difficult battle with nine-time national champion and European gold medallist Edward Donovan.
King, 25, returning to the ring after an eight-year absence, faced a tall order against an Irishman with a decorated amateur record, who was also making his professional bow, on Frank Warren’s BT Sport Show.
The super welterweight contest went all the way but the decision did not go the way of the Portsmouthbased boxer.
Still, King could take comfort from the fact he got four rounds under his belt in the pro ranks for the first time - and getting an opportunity on top promoter Frank Warren’s show.
