Chamberlain flattered by Fury ‘world champ’ talk

Mark Chamberlain was flattered after receiving a ringing endorsement from Tyson Fury's father, John, following his crushing knockout victory over Jordan Ellison at the weekend.

But the Waterlooville lightweight insisted he won't be getting 'carried away' as his boxing reputation continues to rise.

Sport on the night, Fury described Chamberlain as a potential 'future world champion' when picking the bones out of his first-round knockout win.

The southpaw displayed his devastating power once more with a ferocious body shot which sent the Durham-based fighter to the canvass.

Incredibly, the 22-year-old prospect has now won five of his eight professional fights by knockouts inside the opening round.

Chamberlain, now 8-0 in the pro ranks, produced such an eye-catching display even the typically unimpressible Fury showered him with praise.

Chamberlain said: ‘John Fury never praises anyone up so for him to praise me up like he did and for him to say I could be a future world champion - I’ve got to be doing something right.

‘He wasn’t being nice about the boxers before I got on, was he?

‘I think even one of the commentators said, ‘are you feeling alright, John?'

‘It is good to hear (praise), I suppose it’s about taking it all in but don’t get carried away with what they’re saying.

‘All my stoppages have been in the first round. I don’t go out there looking for a stoppage because it can look ugly.

‘It came lovely on Saturday, the timing was right, the shot was perfect.’

Promoter Frank Warren, another who rates the lightweight highly, is planning a quickfire ring return for one of his hottest prospects.

Chamberlain revealed his management are now planning to get him another fight in the next 'four to six weeks'.

The southpaw is already back in the gym in preparation for his next fight and he is looking to land a title fight before the end of the year.

Chamberlain said: ‘I had a good chat (with Frank Warren) when I got out of the ring and he was over the moon.

‘He just said to me that he’d get me out again in four of five weeks’ time as he wants to keep me active.

‘It came from his mouth, he’s a man of his word, so if he says he’ll get me out in four or five weeks then he will.

‘I’m hoping I get out in four weeks again and definitely before Christmas, I’d like to say anyway.

‘Hopefully someone in the top-20 at least (next opponent) and then we’ll get a title shot, I don’t know what title, but we’ll get something.’
