We don’t need an inquiry – and it’s not the time for pay rises

-

In response to the Labour leader and many others, calling for an inquiry in to the handling of the pandemic in the earlier stages and the high death rate in this country.

It has been said many times that these were unprecedented times and being faced with this crisis, the government had to abandon its plans to face up to a completely new agenda. They were bound to make mistakes and I imagine the Labour leader will be secretly pleased that it was not him in command. The high death rate was not through mismanagement, but because of the many selfish people who would take no notice of the regulations. So what is the point in having an inquiry, which will no doubt cost millions of pounds?

At least it looks as though they have got the vaccination programme correct. Why not give the cost of the inquiry towards extra money for the NHS?

It is a shame that money has to come in to some people’s calculations, because I would like to think that the NHS workers have done what they have done, because of pride in their work and knowing that they are doing a fantastic job for which we are enormously grateful and not that they would be able to ask for more money when it is all over.

The resources that we have, have been used to supplement many people’s income and I believe the government have got that right, but they have a huge amount of juggling to do once people are getting back to normal, so please, stop criticising and let them get on with it.

I am sure most of the NHS workers realise this and will wait for the right time for their well-earned increase. This is not the time.
