Football shirt tributes left for Pompey fan killed in road crash
Flowers and cards left at scene
FLOWERS and cards and football shirts have been left at the site of a fatal crash in Hilsea.
A silver Renault Trafic mounted the kerb and crashed into metal railings along London Road near the Beechwood Road junction, in Hilsea, at 1.27pm on Tuesday.
The driver – a man in his 50s – was pronounced dead at the scene.
Yesterday saw almost a dozen bouquets of flowers, written tributes, and football shirts from Arsenal and Portsmouth FC left at the site of the incident, paying tribute to the man’s considerate nature and love of Pompey.
One letter left on the public footpath beside the railings read: ‘Can’t believe you’re gone. Going to miss our little chats on life and your advice.
‘When I’m next up the park, I’ll sing extra loud – Blue Army – for you.
‘RIP – will never forget you.’
A card alongside a bouquet of flowers read: ‘You always had a smile when we saw you
‘So sad we won’t be seeing it again.
‘RIP Buddy. Always remembered.’
An investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing, according to a
Tribute letter spokeswoman from Constabulary.
She said: ‘His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.’
Anyone with information – including dash cam footage of the van driving erratically – should contact police on 101, quoting reference number 44210128879.
