Hiwula can still help Pompey to success

-

JORDY HIWULA epitomises the team camaraderie driving Pompey’s promotion resurgence.

That’s the verdict of Danny Cowley, who continues to be impressed at the togetherness inside the Blues dressing room.

Despite being absent from the rest of Pompey’s League One programme with an ankle injury, Hiwula opted to accompany the squad for their trip to Wigan.

Injured players roaring on the Blues from the stands has become a feature in recent weeks, with John Marquis and Ellis Harrison highly vocal in previous Fratton Park matches.

And Hiwula carried the baton at the DW Stadium on Bank Holiday Monday as the Blues claimed a 1-0 win.

Cowley said: ‘Jordy Hiwula was there at Wigan. Johnny (Marquis) was going to come as well, but we still have some ankle rehab to do with him following his injury, so decided against that in the end.

‘The squad is together and if injured players want to travel with us then great.

‘There’s not too much rehab Jordy can do at the moment, but he still wants to affect the team and help the team.

‘They know we haven’t got the supporters here, the loudest in the land, so want to contribute.

‘Jordy is desperate for us to win because he knows that if we do, it can extend the season. Hopefully he can be back and play a part.’

Joining Marquis at home on Monday was Ellis Harrison, also nursing an injury.

The striker has been ruled out for the season after undergoing an operation having damaged lateral knee ligaments.

Cowley added: ‘Ellis wasn’t there at Wigan and didn’t travel. The best thing for him is to stay at home following his operation.’
