HAIRDRESSERS, barbers and salons across the Portsmouth area opened their doors to customers yesterday morning.

Mike Yeoman, 48, of Southsea, was happy to patiently wait for his haircut outside Bob the Barber on Albert Road in the cold.

'I've been out here for more than half an hour but I don't mind. I think it's a good idea to have one person in the barber shop at a time. We still need to be careful,' he said.

'It's nice to be able to get a haircut. The wife did mine before but it's not the same.'

Clients desperate for a trim were queued outside Ian’s Barbers on Park Road, Havant.

Lee Merrett, 36, and his son George, 11, and Harry, seven, had been standing in line for an hour waiting for a walk-in appointment.

Lee, who lives in Emsworth, said: ‘We’ve been waiting a while, but it’ll be so worth it.’

Behind the family in the line was Callum Allen, 19, who had been waiting for half an hour for a haircut, and 18 year old brothers Wesley and Jacob Murray.

Wesley, who had his last haircut in December, said: ‘I’m really looking forward to a haircut, it’s got really uncomfortable.’

Also in Havant, a new hair and beauty parlour opened its door for the first time yesterday.

Family business Salon Dolly on West Street welcomed customers for nail and hair treatments.

Mollie Warton, 42, is the salon’s director and owner, and her daughter Laci Anderson, 18, is the salon manager.

Laci’s sister Lois, 12, was also at the salon, which has a bright pink and white balloon display outside created by Farnborough business Balloon Mama.

The family, who are from Bedhampton, is excited to launch their new business.

Laci said: ‘We’re fully booked all today.

‘We’re excited, nervous it’s been a crazy couple of weeks.’

Mo Alzafiri, 27, from Fareham, is a barber at Ramze The Barber Shop in West Street, Fareham.

He said: ‘I opened at 8am and there was already a queue. I’m feeling good today, it feels like I’ve been fasting and I’m getting back to food, getting back to life again.’

Max Jump, 30, a fencer from Knowle, was one of the first in line.

He said: 'I am happy that it's opened up again. After this hair cut I'm off shopping with the missus and kids.

‘I might even go to the pub for lunch. It's good that everything is back.'

Oli Ellis, four, was with his mum Jenni Ellis, and brother Matty, two, from Fareham.

Jenni said: ‘It’s been lovely in here, they were great. It’s so good to get their hair cut.’

Meanwhile barber Abdul Kunbus, 21, was cutting Jon Greep’s hair. Jon, a 60-yearold company director, from Sarisbury Green, said: ‘It’s been too long. My son had a go at it once during lockdown but never again.’
