Determined eight-year-old with epilepsy walks 100 miles
Plucky Jameson Legg throws himself into gruelling pilepsy Society 100 Miles in 100 Days challenge, despite the official event already being halfway through, helping raise hundreds for the charity
A HUGE 100-mile challenge has been overcome by a young boy with epilepsy, who has raised more than £800 through his efforts.
Jameson Legg, eight, signed up for the Epilepsy Society 100 Miles in 100 Days challenge, despite the official event already being halfway through.
Jameson, known as Jimmy, threw himself into completing the effort in half the time and battled through it despite living with epilepsy and hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
Having raised hundreds for the charity, Waterlooville youngster Jimmy said: ‘It feels good and I am proud of my friends and family to help the epilepsy society and people with epilepsy.
He added: ‘It was difficult, I got very tired some days.’
After having two strokes when he was born, Jimmy has a weakness on his left side and didn’t walk without a walking frame until he was about five.
With a tendency to be unbalanced and sometimes tripping over, Jimmy and his parents weren’t sure how he would get on with the challenge.
However, he smashed the target and really enjoyed getting out with mum Nikki, dad Andy and four-year-old sister Alyce to explore the area and get their steps in.
Proud Nikki said: ‘We saw the challenge after it had started and when I mentioned it to him, he said he would quite like to do it.
‘The 100 miles is a different kind of challenge for a child like Jameson. We did have moments where it was really difficult for him physically. When he gets tired he has seizures, so we have to be careful.
‘We have really pushed him. He’s had a lot of support and lots of people sending him messages of praise. He knew lots of people were rooting for him.’

Jimmy’s challenge was completed on Thursday, and his final walk of the event finished at Fratton Park.
Dad Andy said: ‘It's been lovely to push ourselves and all go for walks to new and old places, to take in the scenery or small details that are about.
‘We're so proud that Jimmy has really pushed himself and not given up.’
The determined youngster met his fundraising goal really quickly, and friends and family have continued to donate and boost the total beyond what Jimmy ever imagined.
