AN NHS foundation trust is calling for nominations for public governors to help shape healthcare services.

People who want to make a difference to healthcare in their local area are invited to put their name forward.

Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health, learning disabilities, children’s services and community services and has vacancies for public governors in South West Hampshire, South East Hampshire, and Southampton.

Lynne Hunt, chair of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, said: ‘Our public governors play such a vital role

within our organisation.

‘They not only help us make strategic decisions about our services but, most importantly, they are the voice of the public, patients and their families and carers; helping to share views and ask vital questions on behalf of the people of Hampshire.

‘Soif youhaveapassionfor healthcare and want to make a huge difference, I encourage you to become a public governor.”

Governors are members of the council of governors and provide a link between the public and the trust, helping to communicate the ideas, feedback and concerns of local people.

Their role is to raise concerns and ask questions on behalf of people living in the constituencies they represent, to support service users, and their families and carers, and help shape the way the trust provides its services.

Adrian Thorne, lead governor of Southern Health NHS

Foundation Trust, said: ‘Governors play a key role in making sure our patients and carers voices are heard and they are a critical friend to the trust.

‘For our council of governors to be most effective, we need individuals with all sorts of backgrounds, interests and skills to join

the council to fully represent our communities across the county.

‘I truly believe that governors can make more of a positive impact in representing our public and influencing the services provided so they can become the best they can be.

Nominations for the public governor elections are open until 5pm on July 21.

Anyone wishing to stand for election or nominate a prospective governor must be a member of Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust.
