Lockdown life has inspired a career change for me

- CHERYL GIBBS FROM GIRL ABOUT TOWN TO YUMMY MUMMY

Covid has changed the world, as we once knew it. Apart from the obvious – like, all being locked down for the best part of a year, unable to see family and friends, it has also changed how we operate day to day. I recall that before Covid, for years I would trek up to London on the train, commuting for about five hours a day (two-and-a-half hours each way) before

I’d plant my bum on the chair at ITN Productions, where I’d then work a full day, often late into the night if during an edit.

Looking back now, I don’t know how I did it.

I did this for years before the burn-out got too much and I decided that if I was lucky enough to become a mum some day (something that took more than two-and-a-half years and a round of IVF to achieve) then I’d want to be present as much as possible.

As a result I decided this meant no more long commutes to London.

So during lockdown, I set up my own business Media Meerkat, a headhunting recruitment agency for the TV and media industry and it’s going really well.

However, little did I know that the impact of Covid has changed things so much that few companies are actually requiring you to go into the office everyday.

I probably could have stayed in TV as a producer, but hey – everything happens for a reason!

I’m loving my new role as MD of Media Meerkat and I love the freedom it gives me to be both businesswoman and mum.

And I love that all my years of experience in the industry are paying dividends now in helping others either break into the industry or progress within it – I get to impart my wisdom and make a crust from it too.

I’ve just launched our website which was designed for us by Reid Media and I hope you like it! (You can take a little peek at Mediameerkat.com)

I love a chat (no, me?) so if you want to talk about a career in the ol’ biz they call showbizness, let me know…

My door is always open, so to speak – or just fill out the form online, that’s probably more appropriate, and professional, right?
