Osmonds frontman back for tour packed with hits
Former frontman of one of the greatest sibling bands in the world The Osmonds, Merrill Osmond will be coming back to the UK soon for a series of special shows.
An Evening With Merrill Osmond will see him perform all the big hits from the Osmonds’ back catalogue, his popular solo songs and a few of his own favourites, writes Martin Hutchinson.
He’ll also talk about his experiences growing up within one of the world’s biggest bands, the famous people he has met, life in The Osmond family and the stories behind the songs.
Some of the instantly recognisable hits Merrill and his band will be performing will include Love Me For A Reason, Crazy Horses, One Bad Apple, Let Me In, Goin’ Home, The Proud One and Having A Party, along with songs from his new show including a Beatles medley and a tribute to Neil Diamond.
Merrill, who has regularly connected with his fans throughout the pandemic via social media chats and sessions, hopes that this tour will give everyone the chance to dance, sing and celebrate the world getting ready to open up again.
He was lead singer for the world-famous Osmond family, arguably the first and one of the biggest boy bands in the world.
Merrill was a global heartthrob throughout the ’70s. He is also an established solo artist who has toured the world performing in many major venues and has more than 27 gold records.
He produced and wrote the music and lyrics for five number one hits. The Osmonds have produced 47 platinum records worldwide. No other recording artists have earned as many gold records in one year as the Osmond family.
I recently caught up with Merrill and asked what lockdown had been like for him. “Well, first of all, the experience has been interesting, but it has been very difficult for a lot of people.
“My daughter Sheila got COVID quite badly but she was young enough to get over it, thankfully. I also kept contact with my fans through social media and I hope that has been a help. It was nice to keep in contact with everyone and provide mutual support in what has been a challenging time.
“I spent hours, days and weeks going through YouTube looking at Osmonds’ stuff that I don’t even remember doing!
“Some of the old footage when we were working for Walt Disney and on the Andy Williams Show. I’ve been doing this now for 64 years and there’s a heck of a lot of stuff out there.”
He added: “On a more personal level, I’ve been painting, reading and spending a lot of time with my wife.”
