Teona aiming to bring ‘fresh eyes’ to consultancy

Entrepreneur’s consulting venture includes nod to a magical character

- BADGE OF HONOUR

A DYNAMIC entrepreneur

who has a love for Mary Poppins has started her own business helping give advice to others.

Teona Wingate, 40, from Southsea, started her business Shamp Consulting after working in a range of different sectors over the years.

She has worked with family businesses and multinational companies, volunteered with charities, worked in media and marketing amongst others, and now uses her experience to help others.

She said: ‘I have experience in many many sectors and I wear it as a badge of honour as opposed to something that I’m ashamed of.’ Everything I do I give 100 per cent, I love learning. I get a real genuine buzz out of helping people.

‘I’d always been afraid of the word consultancy, because I thought you needed to have a PhD and eight degrees to be a consultant but you don’t. ou need experience, passion, drive, ambition and an eagerness to underpromise and overdeliver, always.’

Once she realised that from her experience she had gained knowledge about different industries and built up a diverse network of individuals, Teona started Shamp Consulting in September in order to help businesses and ‘facilitate relationships between lovely people’, and she already has four clients.

She aims to help businesses in a number of ways, by bringing fresh eyes and providing an overview by looking at the bigger picture, whilst also building trust with clients and being honest.

She said: ‘I don’t try and keep any gems hidden, I’m very open and I operate with integrity. I pride myself with my amiable character, my ability to build rapport and the fact that I’m genuine.’

In order to ensure that she works with like minded people, Teona called the business Shamp Consulting, with ‘shamp’ being an acronym for ‘same height as Mary Poppins’. She said that it has been a great way to find the type of people that she wants to work with.

She said: ‘If something thinks “that’s not very professional for a business consultant”, if you’re not even going to bother to find out what I’m about and what I offer, then we’re not going to work effectively together.’

Two companies that Teona has worked with and that reflect her ethos are Home Instead Care, a quality and professional home care service, and Rifu, a new social media platform for business referrals that is currently offering free listings for businesses.

Teona offers free one to one no obligation consultations with Shamp Consulting.
