Banksy: Most Wanted (BritBox, from December 9) Who exactly is Banksy? Rumours have persisted over the years, with various names thrown into the ring – our favourite being former Art Attack presenter
Neil Buchanan; sadly, he has denied the suggestion. It’s widely believed his real name is Robin Gunningham, a Bristol native, but whatever the truth, there’s no doubt that Banksy is one of the most famous artists in the country, with an instantly recognisable (if much-copied) style. This documentary delves into his identity, putting forward various theories and even employing a serial killer investigator in a bid to expose the truth.
The Unforgivable (Netflix, from December 10)
Acclaimed German director Nora Fingscheidt’s latest project is a bit of a curiosity piece – it’s based on the 2009 Yorkshire-set ITV drama Unforgiven, originally written by Sally Wainwright and starring Suranne Jones. This time the leading actor is Sandra Bullock, who is also one of the film’s producers. She plays Ruth Slater, who is released from prison, having served a lengthy sentence for a violent crime. She returns to her hometown, keen to pick up the pieces of her former life, but finds that the locals cannot forgive her past transgressions. Everyone seems to be judging her with accusing eyes; Ruth hopes for redemption by reuniting with the younger sister she left behind – although her task is far from easy. Vincent D’Onofrio, Viila Davis, Jon Bernthal and Richard Thomas also star.
Alex Rider – Season 2 (IMDB TV from December 3)
Based on Anthony Horowitz’s book Point Blanc, the first series of intriguepacked spy drama Alex Rider starring Otto Farrant in the title role was a guilty pleasure last summer on Prime Video. A new series shoots to kill on IMDb TV this week, drawing inspiration from the fourth book in the franchise, Eagle Strike, to plunge the youngster into another sinister plot with dire global implications.
Alex is still haunted by the death of his uncle Ian (Andrew Buchan), supposedly at the hands of
Yassen Gregorovich. When the villain strikes again, attacking journalist Ed Pleasance, father of Alex’s friend Sabina (Charithra Chandran), the teenage operative is compelled to act.
