Cup romp for Priory

Priory Miltonians earned the bragging rights against Portsea Island rivals Milton Park in the latest round of games in the Fareham-based Palmerston Bowls Cup.

Miltonians won all three rinks to claim a 73-41 win and an overall points success of 12-0.

Miltonians’ Kath Patrick, below, got off to a flying start against Mick Molloy, leading 13-2 after six ends. The pressure was maintained to the end with Miltonians winning 25-11.

Milton Park’s Mick Brown got off the mark first against Roly Bloy, but a seven on the third end catapulted Miltonians into the lead.

By the 11th end they were all square, at 14-14, and it was 16-16 three ends later. A strong finish from Miltonians secured a 22-18 victory.

Miltonians’ Steve Smith stormed into a 19-4 lead against Dave Brown at the halfway stage. Brown rattled off seven unanswered points, but Miltonians triumphed 26-12.

Fareham Green suffered a comprehens­ive defeat against Banister Gold.

Fareham were leading on two rinks at the two thirds distance, but ended up losing 77-34 (11-1 on points).

Fareham’s Dave Holland led 9-4 at halfway against Rod Hick. Banister levelled at 10-10 after 14 ends and, by the 16th, led by three shots.

Fareham hit back, winning a shot on each of the last three ends to force a 13-13 draw.

Fareham’s George Churcher led Lorraine Slater 12-11 after 13 ends, but Banister took control of the last six ends to triumph 26-12.

Banister’s Mark Compton stormed into a 15-2 lead against Sid Ryves and seven shots on the final end saw him record a 38-9 victory.

Banister are one of three teams to have won their opening three matches, along with leaders Fareham Blue and Eastleigh Red Devils.

Milton Park have lost all three of their fixtures so far, with Fareham Green and Solent Cavaliers having lost two out of two.
