A rotten culture

-

As I see it, Boris and his chums made a rod for their own back when they introduced such swingeing application of the law.

They asked an already overworked police force to arrest or move on citizens from parks and gardens, and while some may have enjoyed these extra powers, I wonder how many coppers swore under their breath.

Most people would have abided by 'the rules'.

Those who didn't want to would have rebelled anyway.

All BJ and team actually did was make a rod for their own backs. Had the rules been less draconian there would have been no scandal involving Downing Street and the PM's approximation with the truth.

If only the chiefs of police had had the courage to tell BJ: 'No, we are NOT the Covid Police', all of the latest unpleasantness could have been avoided.

The culture within Downing Street stretches beyond the government, and has infected high level civil servants too.

Had those in No.10 acted like human beings, all would have been fine. Sadly, they chose to implement laws that they felt free to ignore themselves.

The Sue Gray report, it is being suggested, will criticise some behaviour, will cite sundry 'misunderstandings' and 'lack of clarity'. A couple will walk, most will carry on.

This is why so many Tories have told the media to 'wait for the report'. They know it will exonerate 'the Big Dog'. Incidentally, I wonder if Number 10 told Her Majesty to 'wait for the Sue Gray report'? All one can hope is that the public will do what Conservatives are too scared to do, and that is rid us of Johnson. IF they do ditch BJ, they can probably reclaim their lead over Labour.

If they stick with him, large parts of the country will desert them, and quite right too.
