For All Mankind (Apple TV+, from June 10)

The season two finale gave us all a hint of what was coming and, sure enough, season three of the alternate-reality series whisks us to a new decade, moving into the early 1990s with a high-octane race to a new planetary frontier: Mars. The Red Planet becomes the new goal in the Space Race not only for the US and Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake. Ambitions for Mars come into conflict and everyone’s loyalties are tested, creating a pressure cooker that builds to a climactic conclusion. Regulars Joel Kinnaman, Shantel VanSanten and Jodi Balfour are joined by Edi Gathegi as Dev Ayesa, a visionary who has his sights set on the stars.

Hacks (Amazon Prime, from June 10)

Back in March, the streaming service premiered the first season of Hacks, a wellreceived comedy starring

Jean Smart (in an Emmy-winning role) as Deborah Vance, a oncelegendary performer whose Las Vegas residency was under threat because she’d lost touch with the modern world. However, it was hoped that hiring Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), a once hot comedy writer brought low by an ill-advised Tweet, would change that. Now the show is back for a second run of eight episodes and will follow the duo’s trip across the States as they try out Deborah’s new act. The pair have formed a tentative bond, but there could be trouble on the way due to an explosive email. Carl ClemonsHopkins co-stars, while Laurie Metcalf joins the cast.
