A right royal disaster for friend Brindley

-

reetings Chipsters everywhere! This week I’ve been panting with excitement! I was invited to a Jubilee street party and everyone had to dress up in red, white and blue.

I overheard mum saying to our neighbour there would be loads of food – sausage rolls, sandwiches and cake, which I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist. Mum tasked me with helping the neighbours with the preparations. My first job was to take a string of bunting to Mrs Brown at number 34, before traipsing through the bulldog estate to take tablecloths to Mr Singh at number five, and finally handing a recipe card to Mrs Baker at number four so she could whip up the jubilee trifle. There seemed to be lots on my to-do list and I was feeling sleepy. Perhaps it was the thought of all that food, so I asked Brindley to help. I told him what the tasks were before taking a doze. Later I saw him in the front garden sunbathing with a jellied eel ice pop. He said he had finished all his jobs, so I asked mum if we could take him to Blue Reef Aquarium. The party wasn’t until the evening - when we had a series of neighbours visit us. Mrs Baker arrived first, sporting a stripy blue top and red culottes. She had received a card through her door, but it wasn’t a recipe card for the trifle, it was mum’s shopping list for our holiday to Devon.

Then Mr Singh knocked on the door complaining someone had posted a pocket handkerchief through his door! He was followed by a rather confused Mrs Brown holding a long string of sausages saying this doesn’t look anything like jubilee bunting… Brindley, you are a scatty cat! Chip chip for now, your old friend Chipper.
