New road thoughts

-

The new road [Stubbington by-pass] has been built and is now open but what will it do for Stubbington and Fareham?

Developers who only care about one thing, and that is profit, are starting to congregate like vultures as they see the opening of building sites on these open fields thanks to the agreement they have made with Fareham Borough Council.

It was good to see the letter from Jane Stafferi of the Green Party commenting on buses not turning up with no explanation of why. Yet we are told, use your app to update times. Fine for those who can use them but what about those who have no access to electronic mail?

Our concerns from Transport Action Fareham Gosport (TAFG), are that this road will do nothing for people without access to motor vehicles, not a mention from the member for Gosport about the poor service to those living in south Fareham, Stubbington, Hill Head, Titchfield and Lee-onthe-Solent, especially in the evenings and bank holidays. Some districts in our area have no service at all on a Sunday at any time!

Yet all we hear from the MP for Gosport is that she will object to any plans for housing in this area, but in the same breath says that this new road will be good for further development. But where would the development go without affecting the gap between Fareham and Gosport?

Not a word about the poor public transport service.

When our political representatives are so out of touch, is it any wonder that there is discord from employees in the transport sector, as we have seen lately in the problem of industrial action from those working on our privatised rail network.

On a final note TAFG has a survey on transport in our local area and some of the comments make for interesting reading. If you would like a copy please contact me at TAFG on john.vivian@ntlworld.com.

For those interested the group will meet on

Saturday, June 18 at 10.30am in Westbury Manor Museum, Fareham. Please contact me for the agenda to see what we will be looking at.

What about those who have no access to electronic mail?
