Waterlooville’s last-ball run-out drama in Southern League tie

-

Waterlooville CC were involved in a rare Southern Premier League tie with Fawley.

Ville began the last over bowled by Nicholas Doubell - needing eight to overhaul the hosts’ 166 all out total in a Division 2 fixture.

Skipper Archie Reynolds and Sam Robinson took singles off the first three balls before the latter struck a boundary off the fourth to level the scores.

Needing just a run off two deliveries, Robinson failed to score off the penultimate ball and was run out by Ben Smith off the last.

Robinson (28) had helped Reynolds (64 not out) give Ville a chance of victory with a 61-run stand for the seventh wicket.

Tim Jackson (4-41) and Sam Hillman (3-16) had earlier helped to bowl Fawley out fairly cheaply after they had been inserted. Doubell (48) rescued his side, batting at No 6 and top scoring after Ville had reduced them to 73-5.

*Sam Floyd was dismissed in the 80s for the second week running as Sarisbury handed second from bottom Sparsholt a 131-run home thumping.

A week after hitting 83 against New Milton, Floyd struck 89 as Athletic posted 286 after being inserted at the Norman Edwards ground.

Floyd had cracked 14 fours and two sixes at exactly a run-a-ball until he was clean bowled from the 90th delivery he faced. No 7 Rob Franklin (52) and skipper Josh Hill (41) were also in the runs.

In reply, Sam Hill (3-35) and Jordan Wright (3-38) were among the wickets as Sparsholt crashed from an already troublesome 92-4 to a sickly 96-7.

Callum Doran (50) top scored at No 6 but he was ninth out at 143 with the final wicket tumbling 12 runs later.

*Angus Southon and Jeremy Bulled set up Fareham & Crofton’s Hampshire League victory over Bramshaw with a remarkable stand.

The pair came together at 83-6 and put on 122 for the seventh wicket in the County Division 1 fixture at Bath Lane.

No 8 Southon struck 101 - his maiden league century - while former Havant stalwart Bulled was dismissed just one short of his ton.

Thanks to them, F & C reached 263 before bowing Bramshaw out for 207. Full story in tomorrow’s
