Blues trio in contention to make injury return in key clash at Shrewsbury
John Mousinho has provided an update on some of his walking wounded ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Shrewsbury.
The Blues were without the injured Connor Ogilvie, Michael Jacobs, Paddy Lane, Zak Swanson, Ronan Curtis, Jay Mingi and Jayden Reid for Monday’s visit of Morecambe to Fratton Park.
Yet three of the above could be in contention for the game at Greenhous Meadow.
Here’s the latest from the Pompey head coach, with the suspended Joe Morrell still absent as he sits out a fourmatch ban.
Connor Ogilvie (dead leg)
Last game: MK Dons (A) – April 7.
Mousinho said: ‘Connor trained yesterday, so hopefully he’ll be back for selection for the weekend.’
Michael Jacobs (calf )
Last game: MK Dons (A) – April 7.
Mousinho said: ‘Michael hasn’t managed to train yet but hopefully he’ll be able to train today. It’s not a longterm injury so we’ll see if that calf has settled down enough for him to be able to train and be available for selection.’
Paddy Lane (hamstring)
Last game: Port Vale (H) – March 25.
Mousinho said: ‘Paddy was back in full training yesterday. He’sanexcellentoptiontohave and if he gets through training yesterday, which he did withoutareaction,andtrainsagain today, that’s one we’ll consider in terms of selection for the Shrewsbury game.’
Jayden Reid (ACL)
Last game: Bristol City (A) – July 14, 2022.
Mousinho said: ‘Jayden’s out on the grass and it’s really good to see him out on the grass progressing with the ACL rehab.’
Ronan Curtis (ACL)
Last game: Bolton (H) – February 28.
Mousinho said: ‘Ronan is now off the crutches, three weeks post-surgery.’
Zak Swanson (groin)
Last game: Peterborough (A) – January 28.
Mousinho said: ‘Zak is now a couple of weeks postsurgery. He’s really looking to get his strength and fitness back in the gym and because of the nature of his injury, it’s only going to be another couple of weeks until he’s out on the training pitch.’
Jay Mingi (ankle)
Last game: AFC Bournemouth (A) – March 21.
Pencilled in for return to training yesterday.
