Dalai Lama’s video is causing fair amount of consternation

- Cheryl Gibbs

Iwas genuinely appalled when I saw the discussions this week over whether or not the Dalai Lama did anything. I’m sorry but there is no discussion. Simple.

If you haven't seen the god awful video, then I ask you to save yourself the heartache. I can’t unsee the footage now and quite frankly the video should have been banned from public consumption.

Now I’m not here to just condemn someone, especially not someone like the Dalai Lama who clearly has done more for humanity than most of us could ever dream of, and for that he deserves the utmost respect.

However, asking a young boy of the age of 7 or 8 for a kiss on the lips and requesting he ‘sucks my tongue’ is nothing short of disgusting and quite frankly should be condemned so that we as a society don’t think that anyone, regardless of who they are and what they’ve done, be exempt from the general rule of thumb that asking a young child to do this is nothing short of disgraceful and he should be held accountable.

The young boy met the Dalai Lama during his trip in Thailand where the boy asked for a cuddle from the Tibetan spiritual leader.

In response, he asked for a kiss on the lips and for the boy to suck his tongue - I truly wasn’t sure what I was watching but it made me feel sick to my stomach.

The Dalai Lama has apologised profusely since suggesting that he was just being playful and didn’t mean any harm. But harm has been done.

That little boy was violated and my concern is the millions of people who watched that video may think that it’s acceptable to do that to a child because the Dalai Lama did it.

It’s not okay. It couldn't be more wrong.

While I’ve seen some debates this week on TV and online about what happened, some arguing various points, I was pleased to see a few discussions where the hosts were so appalled by the subject matter that they simply refused to argue any point, citing that there is 'no argument' to which I wholeheartedly agree.
