At last a proper office space, and it’s made a big difference
From girl about town to yummy mummy
My office is finally finished and I’m over the moon with how it’s turned out. I’m also a bit annoyed that I didn’t do it sooner - you know, in true Cheryl Gibbs fashion, I’ll always punish myself over something.
When we were absolutely manically busy last year, and I was taking client calls in my lounge/ dining room with all of Harley’s toys in the background, I could have really done with this beautiful, posh and serene space that I have now.
My brother-in-law Luke, who owns Kings Building Services, turned the back part of our garage into this lovely office you can see and I’m truly thrilled with it.
It finally feels like a proper space that I can run my TV recruitment business-Media Meerkat from. And when I take a client call I actually feel like I’m the owner of an actual business. It makes the world of difference.
I can tell you that every now and then Harley wants to come in to “mummy’s office”. I get shivers at the thought of this turning into a co-family space - I want to shout ‘erm, no, this is mummy’s space, not Harley’s, not daddy’s, just mummy’s’. But I don’t, because that would be immature. Trust me, though, the thought is there - lol.
It took about a month from start to finish and probably just as long for me to decide on furnishings - you can’t see from this picture but I have a lovely corner armchair with cushions that matchthemustardrugonthecarpetedfloor(yes,Iwentforcarpet-I wanted it to feel like a home from home space, not a sterile office).
As a friend pointed out this week when she poked her nose in for a visit, it feels ‘serene’. Poor Matt, though - it hasn’t helped him much because every time I have a work call I get to dash in here and shut the door and he has to deal with the wrath of Harley who doesn’t quite understand that this space is for work.
I also feel a little sorry for our postie who now comes all the way around the back to deliver me our parcels because I’m no longer sitting by the table in the dining room.
I love my office and I’m surprised by the difference it has made to my mental health to be quite frank. I no longer feel the need to constantly be out because when I’m in the house it’s for our free time now and not 24-7 for work.
