Nostalgia for the 60s

I will be the first to admit I´m a nostalgic type of chap.

I rarely watch current TV series or films, instead I stick to stuff from the 60s and 70s, including music and literature.

You could say this is due to my being born in the early 60s and that I´m simply trying to recapture my youth. I would agree, although I don´t think it´s just that.

When I watch those old films and think back, I can see the 60s and the 70s was a more innocent time. People had high hopes for the future, moral values were first. Christiani­ty was present and the importance of the family unit was set in stone.

There was genuine social interactio­n due to the absence of the internet, social media and smartphone­s.

Technology at the time connected people instead of isolating everyone like nowadays.

Today, technology has made a lot of things easier, but people are closed off, absorbed in a virtual world.

The sense of adventure and spontaneit­y in life has all but disappeare­d. It seems the only thing people care about is narcissist­ic pursuits like fame and instant notoriety via social media and so called 'reality' television shows.

When I was a youngster, I remember watching a black and white TV with mum and dad, gazing in wonder as Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon. I remember being taken to the pictures on my birthday to

see 'The Sound of Music', and wearing out the long player of the soundtrack.

I will be the first to admit I'm the nostalgic type.
