An unforgettable weekend in the long history of our nation
Last weekend saw Britain at its finest. The action-packed bank holiday of Coronation activities and celebrations was an unforgettable moment in our nation’s long history.
Millions of people up and down the country watched the Coronation of King Charles III at Westminster Abbey on Saturday and spent the following days celebrating to mark the occasion.
It was an honour to attend the Coronation on behalf of Fareham and the Home Office.
This was an unforgettable ceremony, full of beauty, history, tradition and colour.
It was a deeply religious service that reflected the monarch’s role today and looked prosperously towards the future.
Meanwhile, the bank holiday provided a great opportunity for communities, families and friends to come together in celebration.
It was wonderful to see so many people in Fareham enjoying local events such as the open-air music festival in Warsash, the picnic in the village in Catisfield and the Coronation celebration in Abshot.
Like many others, I took part in the festivities and braved the rain at a Coronation street party in Denmead for a joyous afternoon of music, food and fantastic community spirit.
My thanks to Denmead
Parish Council, All Saints Denmead, and the whole team of volunteers and local groups for putting on a wonderful event.
From an operational perspective, the Coronation was the largest policing mission in history.
It took months of detailed planning, preparation and thousands of police officers from all over the country.
I’m incredibly grateful to the police for all their hard work at the Coronation celebration to ensure it was safe and passed without incident.
Last weekend was truly one to remember, during which I felt incredibly proud of our country.
God Save The King!
