One more Covid death recorded in Portsmouth

There was one more coronaviru­s death recorded over the latest weekly period in Portsmouth.

The latest figures from the UK coronaviru­s dashboard show a total of 624 people had died in the area by April 27.

They were among 28,049 deaths recorded across the South East region since the pandemic began over three years ago.

The weekly figures now include anyone whose death certificat­e – registered up to 14 days before May 11 – mentions Covid-19 as one of the causes.

There were three more deaths in Gosport, taking the overall total to 299, one more in Fareham (overall total now 444) and none in Havant (overall total 512).

A total of 191,016 deaths were recorded throughout England by April 27.

*Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust was caring for 101 patients with coronaviru­s in hospital as of Wednesday.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital with Covid-19 by 8am on May 10 was down from 124 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at the Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 decreased by 36% in the last four weeks.

Across England there were 4,207 people in hospital with Covid as of May 10, with 100 in mechanical ventilatio­n beds.

Nationally, the number of hospital patients with Covid-19 has decreased by 35% in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilator­s has decreased by 26%.

Fifty-one new patients with Covid were admitted to hospital in Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust in the week to May 8 – down from 85 in the previous seven days.
