How women can fall victim by standing by unfaithful partner
I’ve touched on this topic quite a lot over the years, but the judgement women experience is far more than men could ever imagine. It’s not just in appearance, but life in general. There was a specific topic that came to my attention this week and, frankly, it needs to be discussed. The judgement of staying with an unfaithful partner.
It started with my darling friend, Alex. We were casually ploughing our way through our Monday workload when another friend asked us: ‘Who is your favourite Kardashian?’ I answered without a breath, Khloe. Alex’s response… ‘noooo, she’s a mug’. I knew exactly what Alex was talking about.
I’ve lost count of the times Khloe has been cheated on and returned to the unfaithful person. Right now, she doesn’t publicly declare that she is with the father of her children, Tristan, who had multiple affairs, including having a child with someone else when they were also expecting their second baby through a surrogate.
Frankly, her story is one of the most appalling situations where someone is unfaithful, but yet… she returns. I love Khloe, she is my favourite Kardashian, but Alex is right, she is viewed as a ‘mug’. On my way home, I was listening to a podcast with Tori Spelling, another person who stayed with her very unfaithful husband. She spoke of the judgement she received and how painful it was.
A line she spoke resonated loud and clear: ‘I was going to lose regardless. If I left him, I lost, because I lost my family as I knew it. If I stayed, I still lost, but I still had my family together.’
She explained how her husband was the person who broke the trust in the marriage but yet she felt the repercussions because she didn’t leave.
The assumption is, women who stay with an unfaithful partner have no respect for themselves or potentially the faith in their own ability to fend for themselves and leave the marital home.
They’re weak and lack backbone because they stay. I’d be a liar if I said I had never had the same thoughts about women who were repeatedly cheated on.
But, I also sit here and think… we can view someone as weak for staying but is it not a stronger thing to stay and work through the pain together?
