Pompey leapfrogge­d Peterborou­gh United at the top of the League One table after beating them 2-1 away from home on September 15, 2018.

Oli Hawkins and Jamal Lowe inflicted a first defeat of the season on Posh before a crowd of 10,472 at London Road.

The sides were evenly matched in a goalless first period before Hawkins headed his first goal of the campaign from a Ronan Curtis cross to put Kenny Jackett’s side in front on 62 minutes.

Lowe doubled the lead 13 minutes later, finishing well following fine work from both Curtis and Hawkins.

Ivan Toney set up the chance for Matt Godden to pull a goal back for Posh four minutes into added time.

The win at Peterborou­gh was part of an 11-match unbeaten start to Pompey’s league campaign.

They went on to finish fourth before losing to Sunderland in the play-off semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Chelsea topped the Premier League on goal difference after winning 4-1 against Cardiff City at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool were in second place following a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur and AFC Bournemout­h beat Leicester City 4-1 to move up to fifth.

Leeds United scored a late equaliser at Brentford to remain top of the Championsh­ip.

Highest scorers of the day were Yeovil Town, who triumphed 6-0 away to Newport County.

Havant & Waterloovi­lle were beaten 2-1 at home by Sutton United.

Nicke Kabamba gave Hawks a 31st-minute lead against the run of play with a fine shot on the turn, but the visitors struck back with two second-half goals.

Lee Bradbury backed Kabamba to hit 20 goals for his side over the season.

The Hawks boss said: “Nicke is ready to take his game further. He is hungry and works as hard as anyone I’ve ever coached or managed.”

Ryan Pennery scored the only goal of the game as Gosport Borough beat Harrow Borough 1-0 in the Southern League Premier Division South.

A Jimmy Smith goal earned Bognor Regis Town a 1-1 draw at Carshalton Athletic, while Moneyfield­s battled to a 2-2 draw at Southern League Division One South leaders Yate Town.

Baffins Milton Rovers went goal crazy in the FA Vase, firing 14 past New College Swindon at the PMC Stadium.

Fareham Town edged out Corsham Town 2-1 at Cams Alders and Petersfiel­d Town crashed to a 3-1 defeat against Westbury United at Love Lane.
