What’s Quickly? It’s where readers sound off on the issues of the day. Have a quote, question or quip? Call Quickly at 312-222-2426 or email quickly@post-trib.com.

The original intent of public education was to educate. It was not established to be a babysitting service. Yes, you need to go back to work. Yes, we all need to get back to “normal”. But sending children back to school, in August, so you can go back to work, is the wrong reason for opening them, before it is safe to do so. Teachers and students are not collateral damage for the economy.

The Roman Catholic Church received at least $1.48 billion in federal coronavirus aid using a special and unprecedented exemption to a U.S. rule that church leaders secured after lobbying the Trump administration. These same churches pay NO TAXES.

Practically every single day, Trump does or says something or signs some executive order that makes life miserable for somebody. Name one thing Trump has done that has made life better for anyone other than those in Trump’s land of the super-privileged.

Surplus military equipment for law enforcement is not needed. They have become the enemy when they are supposed to be protecting the people.

Trump met with the Goya Foods CEO and said more taxpayer money will be used for charter and private schools in urban areas. Republicans have waged war against public schools to line their pockets. Every Republican needs to be voted out to save the middle class. From Trump to the dogcatcher!

Schools can’t even control lice, you really trust them to control COVID?

If Trump hires you and has great praise for your work, it means your job is provably going to be terminated if you are not family. No one is safe from his wrath.

Does anyone still question why Trump removed the Inspector General from overseeing the $2 trillion coronavirus relief package? How could his family and friends get that money if an Inspector General was watching over that money?

I really wish I could feel bad for the people of Texas, Florida, and Arizona, but I just can’t. All three of those states saw what was happening around the world, saw the devastation as hospitals in New York were overwhelmed by dying coronavirus patients, and decided to ignore the danger right in front of their faces. Actions and inactions have consequences, and I hope to God people see what’s happening now and get smart while we still have a chance.

Businesses tied to President Donald Trump’s family and associates stand to receive as much as $21 million in government loans designed to shore up payroll expenses. So disgraceful!

So many small businesses are struggling and are forced to close during this pandemic. Instead, the Trump administration have distributed the the loans meant for small businesses to the Trump family and friends program where they have all gotten millions and billions just for the asking.

The leading buffoon in Quickly comments is Donald Trump, himself, by spouting lies, misinformation, unsubstantiated theories and criticism of anyone who doesn’t agree with him. Trump is bringing about his own downfall. Hence, the large number of anti-Trump comments. Americans have had enough of his disgraceful behavior. If you have to resort to childish namecalling, I can understand why. The Trump ship is going down. That’s the truth, and you don’t want to deal with it.

As Trump attempts to gaslight America about coronavirus, Republicans have mostly remained silent about his efforts to deceive the public. As cases spike, their silence becomes complicit and jeopardizes public health and safety and lives.

Assuming for a moment that the people behind vandalism of a Frederick Douglass statue in Rochester were antiracist activists, I can’t think of better evidence that statues aren’t how one learns about history. If it were, they’d have known that what they were doing was dumb.

This country is already having to learn how to live with Trump. It doesn’t need to learn how to live with the Trump virus too.

President Trump is on the verge of pardoning Roger Stone before he is due to report to prison. That would mean that Roger Stone is prepared to admit guilt in conspiracy with Russian intelligence to elect Trump, because that is what a pardon would mean.
