Teignmouth harbour is accessible for all types of craft. However, don’t enter or exit in fresh or strong onshore winds as there will be broken water across the bar (depth 0m – 0.5m below chart datum), especially on an ebb tide and low water. Check the position of the channel and the bar prior to entry, and if in doubt, contact the harbour master. Shipping movements can be heard on Channel 12.
n The Jubilee and Trafalgar visitor pontoons are moored in the river on the starboard side of the channel about 100m south off the New Quay. The depth is 2.5m at chart datum. Cost: £1.30 per metre per night or £6 for the day (multihulls pay 50% extra).
n Aim for a safe water waypoint to seaward of the bar. (50°32.45’N 003° 29.15’W (WGS 84). This will place you on the transit line 265° across the bar.
n Line up the Lucette Lighted Beacon Oc.R.6s4m3M in between the two white stripes painted on the sea wall behind the beacon bearing 265° (T).
n Turn to starboard, follow the channel between the Point and Salty bank – marked by two port-hand buoys and one starboardhand buoy.
n Once over the bar, leave the green conical lighted buoy Fl G 2s to starboard.
