GREG ALLEN OPERATES THE FERRY

‘The ferry’s around 60 years old. It’s the King’s Lynn ferry from Lowestoft, and has had several rebuilds – new bow, new gunwales, you name it. I’ve been driving this boat for 22 years and operated the service for seven years. The harbour hasn’t changed in that time. The sand goes in and out.

The ferry can be really busy or really quiet. It runs at a loss October to Easter, although Christmas is alright. On a sunny weekend, we do more business than we do all week.’
