Times Polarised Adventure sunglasses

-

These sunglasses caught my eye thanks to an unusual premise behind their design. In recognition that when sailing, or any other watersports activity, there are often days with a mix of bright sun and cloudy conditions the design team aimed to make them really easy to take off and tuck under a T-shirt, fleece or jacket.

So the design is neat and streamlined, with conventional arms eschewed in favour of a semi-rigid adjustable lanyard that passes over your ears. It can feel a bit strange at first, but you quickly get used to the idea and the concept behind it as the system allows the glasses to be slipped off your nose and inside the neck of your clothing.

This offers some protection from scratches, yet they’re instantly ready when next needed. In this respect, it’s far better than the temptation to put sunglasses in a pocket during a shower. Time also sells replacement lenses for £35. These are polarised Zeiss category 3 lenses that provide 100% UVA and UVB protection.

Another neat feature is that they fold flat inside a fabric pouch and therefore take up very little space when not in use. This makes them ideal for travel and means you never need to be caught out without sunglasses.

However, there’s also a drawback in that the lenses don’t wrap around your eyes. That can be a problem on the water, which makes them less effective and less comfortable to wear when there’s a lot of glare off the water. That was particularly apparent when I wore them in Martinique, but much less of an issue for many days in the English Channel. TIMES POLARISED ADVENTURE SUNGLASSES Tried and tested: ★★★★ Price: £89.
