Site essentials Moffat Camping and Caravannin­g Club Site is just minutes from the centre of this Victorian town, with all the shops, restaurant­s and cafés you could ask for. It is home to the famous Moffat Toffee Shop and one of the broadest high streets in Scotland.

Site essentials This small, family-run caravan park is just outside the village of Ecclefecha­n, birthplace of wordsmith Thomas Carlisle. It’s a great spot for exploring the Borders, or as a stopoff on your way farther north.

The 40-acre park comprises a toilet block with family bathrooms and coin-operated showers, grey and chemical waste disposal, a drive-over motorhome service point and countrysid­e views. The uctouring area has a range of pitch options available, from pitch-only to fully serviced. There are plenty of shower and toilet facilities, with hairdryers, and access to a huge range of entertainm­ent.

The leisure suite includes an indoor pool, a soft play area and a gym. There is an on-site shop with fresh bread delivered daily, a bistro restaurant, a takeaway, a choice of bars and the Starlight Suite, which is the hub of evening entertainm­ent. The site has grass pitches with 16A electric hook-up, toilets and showers, a dog walk and an informatio­n room, so it is fairly basic, but this comes with tranquilli­ty. It is just a stone’s throw from the beauty of Galloway Forest and the sandy beaches of the coast are less than an hour away. Site essentials Mossyard Caravan Park is on a working farm and has stunning views over Fleet Bay. The top field is closest to the facilities up at the farmstead, but the lower field is right on the beach – you couldn’t get closer if you tried.

Facilities include dishwashin­g, toilets, showers (20p for five minutes), a disabled/ family shower room, baby changing, chemical disposal point, laundry machines, an informatio­n room and a slipway for launching boats (charged for).
