The earliest X1s are now available for around £5000. They’ll have a six-figure mileage, so pay for a thorough mechanical inspection to be carried out before you buy. Up the budget to about £10,000 and your options improve markedly. You should easily be able to source a midspec xdrive 20d with around 70k miles, or an xdrive 23d with a slightly higher mileage. If you’re willing to shell out £18,000 you’ll be in line for a BMW Approved example with fewer than 35,000 miles on the clock, plus bells and whistles.
