Any Hillman Hunter fans out there?

- Brian Paton

Yes, I had loads when they could be bought for £100 each! A very comfortable and underrated car.

My dad had one. I thought we were the bees knees as it had a radio in it! A nice, comfy car.

Tony Probee

Dad put ours through the car wash and it snapped off part of the name badge. For quite a while our car was a ‘… man Hunter’.

I had a Sceptre estate back in the Eighties. Overdrive on third and top – it was a great car with velour seats, wood dash and door cappings!

I had a lot of fun in Hillmans. In Australia we had the Arrow, Hunter, Royal, GT and Hustler. The Hustler had the GT/ Sceptre running gear but the bare bones Arrow interior. I think Chrysler’s idea was to give a base for production racing. I had a good time with mine mixing it with the Cooper S on the circuit. Very light in the bodywork, the whole front (bonnet and guards) would twist and shake under hard braking…

John Baxter

I’d prefer one over a Ford Cortina any day of the week. Solid, reliable cars, and the 1725cc engine is actually a very decent lump. Plenty of space, enough poke, and very comfy seats indeed.

Robert Jacklin

I once had a white Hunter GT complete with Rostyles, high back seats, rubber floor mats and occasional overdrive. But I loved it to bits!
