REMOVE POINTS
Tech Tip Check the earth braid’s resistance with a multimeter. Replace if it’s more than 0.3Ω.
Check earth 1
You don’t necessarily have to remove the distributor from the car to fit electronic ignition. Make sure the earth braid is intact and its end tags are clean. It’s absolutely vital for reliable operation.
Remove points 2
Remove the screw(s) that clamp the points to the baseplate. Unscrew the condenser and slide the contact assembly out of the distributor casing. Retain the screws – you’ll need them later.
Keep as spares 3
Keep the points, condenser and contact assembly together as a unit. Stow them in the car. The only disadvantage of electronic ignition is that it can’t always be repaired at the roadside.
