James Walshe on why the PC Restoration Show is his ‘bestie’

-

There’s plenty going on as we ramp up momentum for our big NEC bash.

It was my favourite ever classic car show moment. Our huge but friendly restoration show full of enthusiasts at the NEC had been stealthily infiltrated by ‘an investor’. Stalking the bustling halls in a cheap suit and a clipboard, he approached an elderly couple seated in front of their shiny classic and made his move. ‘How much?’ he enquired. The couple looked confused. He leaned in towards them and persisted: ‘What would you take for it?’

Glancing at his wife, the owner politely explained the car was not for sale, to which our speculator blustered: ‘Everything is for sale!’ With that, and quite unexpectedly, the elderly lady erupted. ‘Now look here!’ Much finger waggling ensued. ‘We’ve had this car for nearly fifty years. And it’ll be in the family for another fifty! Now bugger off!’ Taken aback, our villain scurried away into the crowds with hubby seeing him off with the magnificently pertinent line: ‘You’ve come to the wrong show!’

He was absolutely right. The Practical Classics Restoration and Classic Car Show truly is an event like no other. There’s a spirit, warmth and energy that you simply don’t get anywhere else.

It’s a welcoming place for legions of enthusiasts to immerse themselves in the love of restoration and to celebrate what happens once the restoration is complete. It is a temple devoted to classic car salvation, where clubs gather their troops to champion camaraderie, amazing skills and dedication. It is a place of discovery where we help each other to keep our classics preserved so that generations to come may enjoy them, just as we do now.

Come and see it all for yourself. Experience the atmosphere and come and see us. The whole PC team will be there all weekend!
