Looking forward to a classic future in the PT Bruiser
It was a real suprise to see Nick Larkin’s article on the PT Cruiser last month. I swapped a 1971 Rover P6 2000TC for a 2001 PT Cruiser. What have I done?
I bought the P6 from a friend in the Cardigan Classic Car Club last October to restore. The body was a bit rough and the engine turned out to be seized. So I did a deal with a local classic car dealer also in the club and acquired the Cruiser.
It’s in very good low-mileage condition, and my instinct was to sell it but I was looking for something to replace my sameage but high-mileage Fiat Ulysse. The Fiat has been in the family for a long time, first as daily transport for the whole family and then from six years ago as a van for my signwriting business, after removing the rear seats and wrapping it in bright graphics. The Cruiser fits a similar bill. Stylish, different, comfortable and practical. I removed the seats just like before and it turns into a van.
I may even get away with using it on classic car runs, especially when the weather is bad and I don’t want to risk using our Rover P4 or Alfa Spider.

Ed: There’s no doubting the PT Crusier’s distinctive looks or practicality – and those are two passports to classic car status. It won’t be long now!
