APPLYING FILLER PRIMER

-

Choose filler primer

Forget about cellulose stopper… times have moved on. Use a filler primer. When flatted back, this will create a flawless foundation for the topcoat. Cellulose products (left) are ideal for home use. Two-pack (right) requires specialist safety gear.

Spray filler primer

Blow the dust off the body and clean it with panel wipe. Mix the filler primer with thinners as instructed on its data sheet. Wear coveralls, gloves and a respirator. Spray the whole body using a spraygun with a large fluid tip/needle. Apply 3-4 coats, allowing the prescribed drying time between. When it’s fully cured, apply a guide goat and flat back with 600-grit wet-and-dry paper, used wet. Lightly spot-prime any patches of bare metal with etch primer. It’s now ready for the topcoat.
