How a boxy Swedish dynasty got off the ground

1966 142 and 144 are launched. All cars feature a B18 engine in standard (85bhp) or twin-carb S (115bhp) forms.

1967 144 S arrives in January, then in September 142 and 142 S appear.

1968 145 and 145 S reach UK in May. In September all cars get B20 engine – 90bhp standard or 118bhp S .

1969/70 164 arrives in January with a B30 engine and power steering. Facelift for the 1 44 and 145 brings bigger wheels.

1971 The 145 GL and sixcylinder injection 164 E are introduced.

1972 New fascia fitted from September, with circular instruments and a padded steering wheel.
