Going Travelling

1969 Morris Minor Traveller

Work since last report

Tow-bar and tyres fitted. Brakes serviced. With my long-awaited annual leave dates rapidly approaching, I sent my Traveller to a friend who makes bespoke detachable towbars ready to tow my caravan across France. Having measured the required draw-bar height with the caravan sitting level, it was off to Birmingham for a few days’ fabrication and welding. The result is absolutely superb. Well strengthened and welded to the boot floor and with twin electrics recessed flush against the boot floor, it’s invisible with the tow-ball removed. While servicing the brakes on the Traveller, I spotted adverse tyre wear from poor tracking, so with that sorted, it was a call to Dougal at Longstone Tyres for a set of 155/80/14 Nankangs to replace them. While I was at it, I ordered a pair of trailer tyres for the caravan, too. ‘Trailers like to eat tyres’ said Dougal, so it wasn’t worth skimping. This is where asking an expert really paid dividends.
