TRIUMPH TR8 CONVERTIBLE
Chris’ 1981 TR8 was originally exported to the USA in left-hand drive format. One of the last TR8S made, its Rover V8 engine is fuel injected and it even has air conditioning. After spending years undriven in a private collection Stateside it returned to the UK with 200 miles on the clock in the early Nineties. Later it was put up for sale via TR7 specialists S&S Preparations, who converted it to right-hand drive using a power steering rack and new RHD bulkhead. Chris bought the car in 1999 and today the speedo shows a mere 8000 miles. ‘I’ve driven other TR8S and conversions; this is the only right-hand drive conversion that drives as well as a true factory car,’ he says. Having tried it myself, I can confirm this TR8 drives like new. With the injected V8 in a relatively light body shell, the car’s tractability is astounding. It handles as well as any good TR7 should, but the extra urge, soundtrack and all-round good manners of the injected V8 make it truly special.
